PUBLIC MEETING ABOUT COMMUNITY SAFETY IN HAMBLE
Residents from across the peninsula are warmly invited to the 3rd of our
meetings on 20th May at Hamble Primary School at 7pm. You can meet
representatives of various public agencies (police, councils, housing
associations, and youth services) and let us know what your community
safety concerns are. Please come along and play your part in
making your area even safer.
BURSLEDON STATION CAR PARK
The Local Area Committee has agreed funding to resurface the car park.
It will still be a gravel surface as tarmac is more expensive and might
give the area an ‘urban’ feel; but the new surface will certainly
improve the amenity of the area for users of the station and nearby
facilities.
BURSLEDON COMMUNITY CENTRE
The Centre is well used by local groups offering a range of activities:
bowls, bridge, art, history, gardening, dance and pilates. The
Committee has agreed a contribution towards funding for new windows and
new chairs. For more information about the range of activities
there, please contact 02380 405392.
NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH
There are over 40 groups in the Hamble peninsula area, with over 1000
people involved. The Neighbourhood Watch Association supports them
with information and advice and with regular newsletters (funded by the
Local Area Committee each year) about how people can do some simple
things to help each other make their street or neighborhood even safer.
If you would like to join or start a group, please contact 023 8026
1208.
COUNCIL GRANTS FOR YOUNG AND OLD
The Local Area Committee met on 8th April to agree over £3,000 of grants
for local groups who are part of the community and often find
imaginative ways to promote health and wellbeing for residents.
This year groups to receive grants include: Bursledon Lunch Club,
The Monday Club, and Bursledon Silver Club. Young people involved in
Bursledon Scouts, or the QR2 activity centre at Manor Farm Country Park
will also benefit. And even the youngest residents won’t miss out,
with a grant going to a breastfeeding support group based at Pilands
Wood Community Centre. Many of the groups who submitted applications
this year are based in Bursledon, so the panel would welcome more
requests from Netley and Hamble. Contact 023 8068 8436 for more
information.
LOCAL AREA COMMITTEE (EASTLEIGH BOROUGH COUNCIL)
This Committee (the ‘LAC’) meets regularly to discuss and make decisions
about local services and facilities in Bursledon, Hamble-le-Rice, Netley
Abbey, Butlocks Heath, Old Netley and Kanes Hill. The Committee
has a local budget to spend on certain types of improvements such as
play areas, parks and open spaces and some types of road improvements.
Officers and Councillors on the Committee also work together with Parish
Councils, Schools, Police and local residents to improve everyone’s
quality of life.
HAVE YOUR SAY
The LAC always has a ‘public participation’ session at the start of each
meeting. Any resident or local group can come along and ask a
question or raise an issue directly with the seven Councillors. If
you’ve got a good idea about how we can improve your neighbourhood and
your quality of life, please come along and let us know. See
details of the next meetings below. If you want to know more, or
if you’ve got an issue and you don’t know how to raise it please call
Diccon Bright (BHH Area Co-ordinator) on 023 8068 8436 or email
diccon.bright@eastleigh.gov.uk.
NEXT MEETING
The LAC meetings are usually on a Thursday at 5.30pm at Hamble Primary
School on Hamble Lane. Future meetings are on:
27 May
8 July
2 September
